Summer Reading Challenge Set

Readers of all ages are invited to participate in the Dauphin County Library System's (DCLS) "Reading Colors Your World" Summer Reading Challenge. The challenge will kick off on Tuesday, June 1, and end on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

This year's Summer Reading Challenge is completed by earning points through reading and completing activities. How to complete the challenge depends on each reader's age group. Challenge members can log minutes, books, or activities through the Beanstack website at http://www.dcls.beanstack.org, Beanstack Tracker app, or on a paper log available at all eight DCLS locations.

Most summer programming will be held online this summer. Participants may join the library from anywhere for Cartooning in Color with Joe Wos, Music Play Patrol: African Drum Circle, Color Yoga with Peaceful Poses Yoga for Kids, and more. Most online programs will be held via Zoom.

The DCLS' author and illustrator in residence, Amy June Bates, will host family programs where children can learn how to draw, color, and even make a book. Attendees will get to talk with her about her books, hear about the process she uses to write and illustrate them, and get a peek inside her home studio. Families that attend a program with Bates will receive a copy of her book "The Big Umbrella" to keep.

Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge is available for children, youths, and adults by visiting http://www.dcls.org/src. Readers may also browse the online and pop-up programs happening all summer long.
