Summer Reading Club Continues

The Summer Reading Club is underway at the Dauphin County Library System with online story times, book clubs, and special educational programs planned for people of all ages throughout the summer. Readers may learn more, sign up for this year's Summer Reading Club or register for a program by visiting http://www.dcls.org/src.

Libraries will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, to celebrate Independence Day. Readers may visit http://www.dcls.org to reserve books for curbside pickup later, download an e-book for instant entertainment, or explore research databases.

Before the holiday weekend, families can work together to create art at a Family Paint Party from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 2. Registration is required. A Zoom link and instructions will be sent to participants before each program. Supply lists will be emailed to registrants, and supplies are available for curbside pickup for families that need them. The program is designed for families with children of all ages.

The library system's first online program for tweens and teenagers, Build Your Own Book Club, will begin on Monday, July 6, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., with more sessions to come after the holiday weekend. Registration is required. Instructions on how to join and participate will be emailed to participants before the program begins. The program is open to individuals ages 11 to 14.

Programs for adults will be held on the "Adult Programs at The Library" group on the "Dauphin County Library System" Facebook page and at http://www.dcls.org/BeyondTheShelves. Patrons are invited to participate whenever they have time. Registration is not required.

"Armchair Traveler" will be available on Mondays by 11 p.m. The program will explore different destinations around the world in a series of posts at http://www.dcls.org/BeyondTheShelves.

A Writer's Workshop will be held on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Adults may visit the aforementioned Facebook group each week for a new writing prompt inspired by the Summer Reading Program theme, "Imagine Your Story."

While in-person programs are paused, adults can get hands-on practice with a new skill by requesting a "Get Crafty: Take and Make Kit" for curbside pickup at open libraries, while supplies last. Each kit includes instructions and materials needed to complete an activity. July's kits features paper flowers, hand lettering, and temporary stained-glass windows.
