Support Group Meetings Scheduled

Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will host several upcoming support group meetings.

The Living With Loss Support Group at Garden Spot Village will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Prayer and Meditation Room at Garden Spot Village, and attendees should note the new location. Scott Fuir, the chaplain/bereavement coordinator for Compassus Hospice, will lead a discussion around "The Five Stages of Grief." The Living With Loss group is for persons who have experienced the death of a spouse or family member. The group's focus is support and education. The program will be free and open to the public. The Alzheimer's Association and Garden Spot Village co-sponsor a support group for family caregivers of persons with dementia, and the group will meet on Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. in the Concord Room at Garden Spot Village. The August meeting will focus on the importance of actively engaged minds with brainteaser games and the Never2Late computer system. Upon advance request, free respite care in Adult Day Services is available during this group meeting time for those currently enrolled in Garden Spot Village Adult Day Services. The Parkinson's Support Group at Garden Spot Village will meet on Monday, Aug. 26, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers at Garden Spot Village. This month's meeting will include a focus on "Caring and Coping" and will be facilitated by Judy Shaffer and Garden Spot Village social worker Emelia Reifsnyder. This month, following group announcements, caregivers will go to a separate location for a discussion while people with Parkinson's will stay in the Garden Towers for an informal time of sharing and support. Free resources from the National Parkinson's Foundation are available at the monthly meetings. The free support group is open to all persons with Parkinson's and their caregivers, family, and friends.
