On Saturday, April 13, a non-sanctioned, round-robin benefit table tennis tournament, the Stewartstown Spring SMASH, will be held for beginners and intermediate players. The event will take place at the Stewartstown Recreation Building, 16 College Ave., Stewartstown.
Events will include singles and doubles for individuals with Under 800 USATT ratings and Under 1800 USATT ratings. Recreational players should register for the Under 800 events. Warm-ups before registration will be available at 8 a.m. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m.
A nominal fee is required for participation in the tournament, and it will be payable at the door. To guarantee a spot, players are encouraged to preregister at http://www.sumcttc.org or by contacting Jim Starr at 717-993-3552 or jim@jimstarr.com.
Trophies will be awarded to winners and runners-up. All profits will benefit the Southern York County Food Pantry. Nonperishable food items will be collected during the event to benefit the food pantry.
Players are invited to practice every week leading up to the tournament at the Stewartstown Recreation Building. Practice will be available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m.
