The Elizabethtown Fair will host its annual talent show on Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 6:30 p.m. on the Kiwanis Stage. The contest is open to any amateur from the greater Elizabethtown area. No full bands are allowed. The divisions will be Adult Amateurs; Youth Amateurs, for children and youths through age 18; Lip Sync; and Itty Bitty, for children under age 10.
Any type of talent is acceptable. Contestants will perform a two- to three-minute act, which must be fully staged with costumes, props, dancing, and more, when applicable. All contestants must supply their own music CD. All lyrics and music to be used are at the discretion of the contest officials, and no profanity or inappropriate actions or dress will be permitted. If an act is deemed inappropriate, the performance will be terminated immediately.
Judging criteria will include musical ability, when applicable; choreography, when applicable; costuming; originality and creativity; stage presentation; effectiveness; and overall presentation. The decision of the judges is final. Monetary prizes will be given to the first- through third-place winners.
There is an entry fee. Entry forms are available in the fair's premium book or by contacting Gina Mariani at 717-278-8484. No entries will be accepted at the fair office or after Friday, Aug. 20. Questions may be directed to Mariani.
Additionally, the annual drug awareness poster contest will be held. It is open to the students in kindergarten through grade eight. All posters must be on 11-by-14-inch poster board and must be done in dark pens, markers, or crayons. Posters must be neat and legible and will be judged on content and appearance.
Entries will be split into the following divisions: Division 1, ages 5 and 6; Division 2, ages 7 and 8; Division 3, ages 9 and 10; Division 4, ages 11 to 13; and Division 5, ages 14 to 18. The child's name, address, and phone number should be given on the back of the poster. Ribbons and prize money will be awarded to five places in each division.
Posters should be dropped off at the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church, 996 E. High St., on Monday, Aug. 23, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Entries will be displayed throughout the week.
