"Safety measures that will not detract from our enjoyment, including social distancing in golf carts, on the course, and during the meal, will be in place to protect each of us and all staff at Tanglewood," said Solanco Education Foundation executive director Keith Kaufman, speaking about the organization's annual golf tournament set for Friday, Aug. 7.
Local golfers are invited to tee up in support of Solanco students and teachers during the event at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club, 653 Scotland Road, Quarryville.
Registration at Tanglewood will begin at noon, and the tournament will kick off at 1 p.m. Play will use the scramble format. Following the completion of the round, prizes will be awarded and dinner will be served.
Costs per golfer and per team have been set for participation in the tournament. Local businesses and individuals have sponsored the event in amounts ranging from $150 to $1,000. More sponsors are welcome.
The Solanco Education Foundation will use tournament proceeds to fund $1,000 college scholarships to graduating seniors as well as academic venture grants that enable teachers to implement innovative educational programs in their classrooms. Scholarship recipients in the Class of 2020 and the colleges they will attend include Caroline Arrowsmith, Penn State University; Jenna Bleacher, York College or Millersville University; Michaela Brenneman, Alvernia University; Gabrielle Dolan, Hood College; Jenna Dombach, Lancaster Bible College; Nathan Eller, Gettysburg College; Jack Hertzler, Lehigh University; Rachel Johnson, Messiah College; Jessica Richardson, Millersville University; Alexander Buitron-Zavala, Millersville University; and Nathanael Neuhauser, Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.
