County Park Programs Set

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. There is a per-person fee, and registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. "Evening in the Meadow" will be held on Friday, Aug. 27, from 6 to 7 p.m. This program will offer opportunities for registrants age 6 and up to explore the Muhlenberg Wildflower Meadow with naturalist Mary Ann Schlegel. Attendees will meet at the meadow parking area, 548 Golf Road, and are encouraged to dress for the weather and to bring a water bottle.

"Deep Forest Bathing" will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for those age 13 and up. Naturalist Mary Ann Schlegel will offer an introduction to the practice of deep listening and will guide participants on a mindful walk through the forest at Theodore A. Parker III Natural Area. Participants will meet at the streamside lower parking lot located at 244 Wesley Road, Quarryville.

"Butterflies Flutter By" will welcome attendees of all ages on Sunday, Aug. 29, from 3 to 4 p.m. Naturalist Ann Strauss will teach about markings of local butterflies and the host plants to which these butterflies are most drawn. Strauss will bring butterfly nets so particpants can try to catch butterflies for close examination and possibly to see a butterfly tongue. Participants will meet at the Exhibit Farmhouse, 2 Exhibit Farm Drive, Lancaster.

A Nature Photography Hike will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4. People age 13 and up of all photography skill levels may join naturalist Taylor Mervine in walking the mowed path along the Muhlenberg Wildflower Meadow. Cameras will not be provided, and attendees should bring any they have. The walk will begin at the Exhibit Farmhouse.

Homeschool Wednesday: Our World Ocean will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Environmental Center, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Schlegel will introduce students to ocean geography. Attendees should wear old clothes and plan for indoor and outdoor activities. The program is geared for children ages 8 through 12, but those under age 8 are welcome if accompanying older siblings. Younger siblings should be registered, as well.
