Individuals can consider riding or walking a portion of their commute. People who live close enough to the office can ride their bikes or walk there. If the office is too far, individuals can think about getting off the bus or train a stop earlier and walking the rest of the way. People even can park farther away if they drive to the office.

Desks come in different configurations, and employees may be able to opt for a tall or adjustable desk to enable them to stand and move around a bit while working. If that is not possible, individuals can stand up and do some balance or strength exercises at their desk.

Another option is to take the stairs. Individuals can skip the elevator and go up and down the stairs each day. Doing so when coming in, going in and out for a lunch break, and when leaving in the evening can add up over the course of a day.

People can start a walking club. Individuals can get together with co-workers who also want to exercise and use the lunch hour to walk around. People can eat at their desk before or afterward.

People can consider scheduling walking meetings. Whenever possible, host walking brainstorming sessions or meetings. If the weather cooperates, the meeting can be held outdoors.

Individuals may consider storing some workout gear at work. During breaks, people can do a few arm curls with dumbbells or use resistance bands to work inner and outer thigh muscles.

Another option is to volunteer to run errands. People can step out for coffee or snacks during the day, making an effort to walk when going for their daily jolt of caffeine.
