Cavod Plans Open Houses
Cavod Academy offers a variety of classes in dance, voice, and more, with an emphasis on "creating with purpose." An essential goal of the organization is to offer students a godly environment that inspires excellence in the arts while building community and impacting lives.
Cavod Academy, with locations in New Holland at 665 W. Main St. and Manheim at 280 S. Oak St., will hold open houses to usher in its fall 2022 season. The New Holland open house will be held on Saturday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Manheim event will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. Cavod offers classes for 3-year-olds to adults. Lessons are available in dance classes including all levels of jazz, ballet, creative movement, hip-hop, acrobatics, and modern dance, along with music, theater, and acting. In-person and livestreamed options are available.
Both events will feature free food, door prizes, face painting, fairy hair glitter, a bounce house, a visit by local radio personalities who will broadcast live, and more. Free food options will include hot dogs and beverages. Ice cream will be provided free for those who register for classes that day or who have already registered for the fall session. Ice cream will also be available for purchase.
Cavod open house events are known for the costumed characters from Cavod Theatre shows who greet visitors. Regular performances will include music, theater, and dance presentations every 30 minutes. Every half hour, attendees will have an opportunity to win door prizes, and a grand prize featuring a variety of experiences, including tickets to shows, will be given away.
Cavod music director Amy Rau noted that a new vocal class will be included in the schedule. "We have added vocal technique and harmony classes for ages 8 to 12 and 13 to adult," she noted, explaining that the class will be a group experience. "We will spend an hour a week working on music theory," Rau stated, adding that learning to read music, understanding music, ear training exercises, and learning how to apply all that to musical pieces will be the focus. "We will learn repertoire that allows us to sing in harmony together with a group of people," she said.
A junior program for dancers ages 5 to 8 will be expanding to introduce that age group to all the genres of dance Cavod offers. Dienner noted that a new teacher, Stephanie Brooks Martin, has arrived from New York City. Dienner said that Martin's experience with off-Broadway shows will be valuable in her supervision of the tap dancing program.
In addition, a new Friends in Motion Junior class will be available for those ages 7 to 12. Friends in Motion is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Connie Dienner, director of Cavod, said that the organization has held similar classes for adults for some time and that classes for younger students had been requested.
Dienner is looking forward to the events with enthusiasm. "Open houses are always a highlight," she said, noting that meeting teachers is important to prospective students and their parents.
