The Trees for the Trail Committee has set Sunday, March 31, as date for the second of three tree planting events for the Road of Remembrance Veterans Memorial along the Susquehanna Trail. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Penn-Mar near Seaks Run Road for all volunteers. A tree planting demonstration will be held at 8:50 a.m., and planting will commence at approximately 9 a.m. Local companies will pre-dig the holes and place the trees near the holes to make the planting easier for all age groups. In the case of inclement weather, the tree planting event will be rescheduled for Sunday, April 7.
The first planting of 61 trees was held in October 2018, and more than 100 volunteers planted the trees within two and a half hours.
Anyone interested in volunteering to plant trees in order to honor York County veterans and to be a part of local history may leave a message at 717-428-1410 no later than Friday, March 15. Preregistration will expedite the sign-in process. The volunteers who provided email addresses at the previous planting will be contacted and may respond at that time.
A team of four people is needed to assist the watering truck with the post-planting watering. Anyone interested in being part of this crew should mention this in their message.
Jim Holley is contacting land owners along the Susquehanna Trail from Jacobus to the Maryland border to invite them to have a tree or trees planted on their property as part of this historic landscape architecture.
