Trio Will Present Concert

Feb 09, 2020 - 7:30 pm

The Missy Raines Trio will present a concert sponsored by the Susquehanna Folk Music Society (SFMS) on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Appalachian Brewing Company's Abbey Bar, 50 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg.

Missy Raines has been named International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Bass Player of the Year for 2019, the seventh time she has won the title. She is touring with Ben Garnett on acoustic guitar and George Jackson on fiddle.

The bluegrass instrumentalist previously played with The Claire Lynch Band, Eddie Adcock, Josh Graves, Jim Hurst, Kenny Baker, and Jesse McReynolds. She has also broken new ground as a songwriter with her latest recording, "Royal Traveller." The album digs into Raines' family life and her upbringing in West Virginia. It features previous and current members of her live band and cameos from other bluegrass greats such as Stuart Duncan and Tim O'Brien.

She won her first IBMA award in 1998, the first woman to be named Bass Player of the Year, and won the honor repeatedly for the next several years. One of the "Royal Traveller" tracks features the first five women to win IBMA instrumentalist awards - Raines, Alison Brown, Sierra Hull, Becky Butler, and Molly Tuttle. That track, "Swept Away," was named 2018 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year.

Separate prices have been set for SFMS members, for general admission, and for students ages 3 to 22. Advance tickets are available through BrownPaperTickets.com or by calling 800-838-3006. For more information, readers may visit http://www.sfmsfolk.org.
