"Turning 15" Performance Set

Mar 21, 2019 - 7:30 pm

The Arts at Millersville will present "Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom" on Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster. The play with music tells the true story of Lynda Blackmon, the youngest person to walk from Selma to Montgomery, Ala., in the Voting Rights March in 1965.

Lynda Blackmon Lowery was jailed nine times before her 15th birthday, as she worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr. to secure the right to vote for African-Americans. Ally Sheedy adapted Lowery's multiple award-winning memoir and directed actress Damaras Obi in the production at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music, Art and the Performing Arts. The show has been performed across the U.S.
