Valentin Named Vice President

As part of its Independence Day observance, the Lancaster George Ross Society, National Society, Children of the American Revolution (NSCAR) inducted its newest member, Annabelle "Anna" Elizabeth Valentin, and elected her as vice president.

Anna, of Lancaster Township, is a rising second-grader at Thomas Wharton Elementary School. Anna's mother, Beth S. Valentin, will serve as the new senior vice president and is also board of management treasurer for Lancaster's Donegal Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).

Before Anna's election, the society took a guided tour of Historic Rock Ford Plantation, located at 881 Rock Ford Road, Lancaster. Afterward, the society visited the St. James Episcopal Church gravesite of the 18th-century plantation's owner, Revolutionary War patriot Edward Hand, who served as adjutant general to George Washington. Society members honored Hand for his contributions to the American foundations of freedom.

The Lancaster Children of the American Revolution George Ross Society was founded in 1948. The NSCAR was founded in 1895 and is recognized as the oldest and largest patriotic organization for youths in the United States. The NSCAR aims to train good citizens, develop leaders, and promote love of the USA and its heritage among young people. NSCAR membership is open to any boy or girl under the age of 22 who is lineally descended from a man or woman who rendered material aid to the cause of American independence as a soldier, sailor, civil officer, or recognized patriot in one of the several colonies or states or of the United States.
