Open Stage, 223 Walnut St., Harrisburg, will present "Violet Oakley Unveiled" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, and Saturday, Nov. 13.
The show focuses on local painter Violet Oakley, who in 1902, at the age of 28, became the first American female artist to receive a commission to decorate a public building: the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Set in Harrisburg during a showing at the Pennsylvania State Capitol, the play unveils not only Oakley's stunning murals, but also her private secrets and public heartbreak. Open Stage's production will mark the 115th anniversary of Oakley's unveiling the murals she completed for the Capitol's Governor's Reception Room.
