The Penn State Extension 4-H Youth Development program in Lancaster County will offer many of its traditional 4-H day camps this summer in addition to self-guided activities using virtual formats.
The virtual day camps will take place from Mondays through Thursdays. They will have the following topics, dates, and times: a "Pennsylvania Heritage Foods and Folk Art," July 6 to 9 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., with registration due by Wednesday, July 1; "From Farm to Fork," July 13 to 16 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; "Computer Science: Think ... Plan ... Play!" from July 13 to 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; "Babysitting Basics," July 13 to 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; "Take the Bait and Go Outdoors!" from July 20 to 23 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; "Pet Parade," July 20 to 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; "Science Fun in Your Kitchen," July 27 to 30 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; "Plant Science: Growing With 4-H!" from July 27 to 30 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; and "What's All the Buzz About?" from Aug. 3 to 6 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Additional camps will include Art Journal Time Capsule Camp, Monday through Thursday, July 13 to 16, 1 to 2:30 p.m., registration deadline Friday, July 3; Masterpiece Makeover Art Camp, Monday through Thursday, July 27 to 30, 1 to 2:30 p.m., age 8 and up, registration deadline Wednesday, July 22; and Camp Out at Home, Monday through Thursday, Aug. 3 to 6, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., age 8 and up, registration deadline Friday, July 24.
Each virtual day camp will require youths to have access to a computer, tablet, or smart device so they may use Zoom during the camp. Educational direction will be provided by Penn State Extension 4-H educators and staff during the camp times. Once registered, youths will receive a list of common household items needed for their camp or communication that materials will be mailed to them prior to the start of the camp.
The self-guided activities will take place from Mondays through Fridays and will include the following topics. "4-H Summer Sewing," recommended for beginner and intermediate sewers, will be held from July 6 to 10. "Cultured Curiosity 4-H Project" will be held from July 13 to 17. "Simple Machines: Engineering Design 4-H Project" will be held from July 20 to 24. "Cloverbud STEM 4-H Project," recommended for youths age 5 and up with some assistance needed from an adult or teenager, will be held from July 27 to 31.
Each self-guided activity will require youths to have access to a computer, tablet, or smart device so they may use Zoom for two or three check-in sessions throughout the week. The check-in sessions will include educational direction from Penn State Extension 4-H educators and staff. Once registered, youths will receive a list of common household items needed for the activity or communication that materials will be mailed to them prior to the start of the session.
Youths can register for as many of the virtual day camps and self-guided activities as desired. If there is a recommended age range for a specific camp or activity, that will be stated in the registration information provided by the local Penn State Extension office.
The virtual 4-H day camp series and self-guided activities are open to all youths ages 8 to 18 as of Jan. 1. The virtual camps will be offered free of charge for any youth currently enrolled in the Pennsylvania 4-H program. There is a one-time fee for youths who are not enrolled.

Additionally, Penn State Extension - Lancaster County will offer a virtual 4-H Cloverbuds summer camp from Monday to Friday, July 20 to 24. Children must be ages 5 to 7 as of Jan. 1. There is no fee to participate.
The camp will be conducted daily by Miss Patti and Miss Kaila through a private Zoom meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Campers will do activities together for an hour, and afterward, the children will be free to do the self-guided bonus camp activities on their own. Each day a new theme will be explored in the areas of hobbies, storytelling, pet show, animal habitats, bugs, butterflies, worms and spiders.

Parents or a responsible adult are asked to participate with registered youths to help with computer technology and activities. Participants will receive supplies for two projects in the mail, and activity templates will be emailed, so a parent or caregiver must have an email. A list of other materials needed that are commonly found at home, such as crayons and scissors, will also be emailed.
