The Cultural Alliance of York County will host its sixth annual YorVoice singing competition for free on Saturday, Aug. 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Facebook Live, YouTube Live, and WRCTV Channel 18 in York.
YorVoice is a competition that brings the community together for a night filled with musicians who want to share their music with others. Originally scheduled for March, organizers decided to postpone rather than cancel the event and livestream the show for free so that viewers everywhere can watch.
With many new added elements to help the audience stay connected, this year's YorVoice is set to be livestreamed from the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. Master of ceremonies RalphReal and house band Boompop Coalition will give shout-outs to donors and those responding to comments on the livestream. Those who donate a set amount or more to a team prior to Monday, Aug. 10, will receive a free watch-party kit so they can recreate the full theater experience at home, or they may order a YorVoice party pack for dinner, which will include tacos, beverages, and glowsticks to take home. The public is invited to join the Cultural Alliance virtual happy hour, beginning at 7 p.m. on the "Cultural Alliance of York County" Facebook page, or people may play along at home during the event with special YorVoice bingo cards, available for download at http://www.yorvoice.org.
Performances for the virtual YorVoice event were pre-recorded at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts' Strand Theatre to accommodate current restrictions and to create the best possible online viewing experience.
The funds raised through YorVoice will help to preserve access to the arts for the community. Readers may vote for their favorite YorVoice team for the People's Choice Award by donating to their team page, found at the aforementioned webiste or by using text messaging to vote during the performances.
This year's YorVoice performers are YC Bloc, Hometown Strangers, See the Elephant and the Brass Peanuts, Alyssa Colon, Teagan Tatcher, Fernando Caicedo, James Manjo, and Jeanette Parker. This year's YorVoice judges are Wyatt Oerman, Thais Carrero, Jess Pastelak, and Lee King.
Readers may visit the aforementioned webiste for tips on setting up their virtual YorVoice experience at home, as well as information and voting pages for each of the performers.
