Volunteers Receive Awards

Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children held a Volunteer Service Award Ceremony on April 17 to honor volunteers with the President's Volunteer Service Award. Due in large part to the more than 11,000 volunteer hours logged in 2018, Friends Association was able to provide a safe place to sleep and permanent housing for 122 families and 270 children.

The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard, measured by the number of hours of service during a 12-month period or cumulative hours over the course of a lifetime. Awards are given to individuals who have completed 100 or more hours. Bronze awardees volunteered at least 100 hours, Silver awardees volunteered more than 250 hours, and Gold awardees volunteered at least 500 hours.

The President's Volunteer Service Award was established in 2003 by President George W. Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers make in communities and to encourage more people to serve.

Gold Awards were presented to Anna Danielson, Olivia Fiatoa and Mykella Mitchell. Silver Awards were presented to Kellie Andersen, Matthew Chan, Amira Grimes, Andrew Pruden, Allison Short and Flynn Truskett. Bronze awards were presented to Robert Briselli, Hattie Carroll-Ratliff, Caroline Chagares, Christian Derr, Molly Dolan, Sarah Grubb, Claudia Hutter, Pat Kimmel, Jasmine Kurtz, Denise Myers, Linda Phreaner, Terri Sellers, Serita Spadoni, Carole Truskett, Sheila Wilm and Fran Zappala.
