Wehrly Honored For Service

Charles Wehrly recently became the first member of the Lions Clubs' Zone 4-B to receive a Melvin Jones Fellowship.

Among his community acitivites, Wehrly has served as a supervisor for a local township for more than 20 years. He also volunteers at his church, where he is currently president of the church council and has served for more than 30 years on the cemetery committee. He also donates his talents to helping many other churches in York County.

Wehrly has helped raise money for other organizations and events, including the York Lions Club Blind Center, the York Hospital book sale, Glen Rock Fire Department's annual auction, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, cake auctions, Southern York County School District's May fair auction, the Susquehannock senior class auction, Jacobus Lions Club, other Lions Clubs, the Zone 4-B zone social, Jefferson Fire Department, Glen Rock Ambulance Club and the Menges Mills Historic Horse, Steam, and Gas Engine Association. He has also volunteered with St. Jude's Hospital for 17 years.

Wehrly helped to create the first York County 4-H auction and has worked with 4-H for more than 50 years. He was named Auctioneer of the Year and was recognized by the Pennsylvania Swine Breeders Association for 65 years of service. Additionally, he mentors young auctioneers.

In 2019, Lions Zone 4-B raised $1,200 for the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF).
