"Surgery for Weight Loss" will be a program held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the conference rooms at the WellSpan Ephrata Health Pavilion, 175 Martin Ave., Ephrata. Especially invited to attend are those who have a serious health condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea and are 50 pounds or more overweight and have repeatedly tried dieting and exercise with no lasting success.
The Bariatric Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the WellSpan Cocalico Health Center, 63 W. Church St., Stevens. The topic will be "Healthy Holiday Recipe Exchange."
The Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes Prevention Program will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Nov. 19 and 26, at the WellSpan Cocalico Health Center. This program will focus on the effects of pre-diabetes on the body and how preventive strategies such as healthy eating, portion control, label reading, physical activity and behavior change can have a positive influence on health. "Living in Victory: How to Defeat the Negativity of Diabetes" will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Fairmount Homes Retirement Community, Entrance 2, 1100 Farm Crest Drive, Ephrata. This free event will cover the emotional aspects of diabetes and paths to victory with mindful eating, physical activity and positive self-talk. It will include exhibitors, food samples, recipes and speakers. Preregistration is required by calling 717-721-8790.
Heartsaver Adult, Child and Infant CPR With AED Training will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the WellSpan Cocalico Health Center. It will teach CPR and relief of choking for adults, children and infants and include instruction on the Automated External Defibrillator. A fee has been set. "Conditions of the Spine and Treatment Options" will be held at 9 a.m. on Nov. 12 at the Keystone Villa at Ephrata, 100 N. State St., Ephrata. Attendees will learn about the anatomy of the back and neck, conditions related to the pain, and the importance of getting a proper diagnosis to help get relief. "Break Free From Pelvic Floor Disorder" will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Pine Conference Room at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, 169 Martin Ave., Ephrata. Pelvic health issues, including prolapse and incontinence, will be covered. Preregistration is required by calling 800-840-5905.
"Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation" will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the conference room at the WellSpan Ephrata Health Pavilion. Attendees will learn about the causes of pelvic floor disorders and treatment options available. Preregistration is required by calling 800-840-5905.
"Vape Debate: What Do We Know?" will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at the Ephrata Public Library, 550 S. Reading Road, Ephrata. Attendees will learn about the impact of vaping, whether all e-liquids are the same, whether vaping is a safe alternative to tobacco smoking, and its potential dangers. The Ephrata Cancer Center Support Group will meet from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the WellSpan Ephrata Cancer Center, 460 N. Reading Road, Ephrata. The topic will be a presentation about the role of a nurse navigator. The free support group provides education and support to anyone dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
