The Hempfield Woman's Club has recognized its Students of the Month for March, April, and May. The students will be honored at the club's meeting on Tuesday, April 16. Each student was selected for the honor by a department in the Hempfield School District.
The March Student of the Month, Jenny Tsui, was selected by the Science Department. She is the daughter of Raymond and Tracy Tsui. While in high school, Jenny was active in the Chinese Club, serving as historian and vice president. Jenny also helped with the Homework Club and was a member of Anchor Club and the National Honor Society.
After high school graduation, Jenny plans to attend college to become a registered nurse or a nurse practitioner with a specialty in pediatrics.
The April Student of the Month, Sinclaire Schuetze, was selected by the English Department. She is the daughter of Tom and Linda Schuetze.
Sinclaire joined the staff of the school newspaper, "The Knight's Standard," as a freshman. At the end of that year she was selected as editor-in-chief and has retained that position through 12th grade. She helped the paper transition from an online newspaper format to a hard copy magazine publication.
Sinclaire is also active in the Anchor Club, where she serves a secretary. She is also involved in peer tutoring, German Club, National Honor Society, Steering Committee, Symphony Strings, and the Hempfield Singers. She played the cello in the orchestra for the musical "Mary Poppins." She also plays piano and sings in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church choir.
Sinclaire has Marfan syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder that primarily affects the heart, eyes, and skeletal system. She has created a book, "Stones Barr the Heart," a collection of essays written by Sinclaire and others who have been affected by Marfan syndrome. She presented her book to the National Marfan Foundation board of directors at the 2017 Conference in Atlanta.
After high school, Sinclaire plans to attend college and double major in computer science and sociology. After earning her undergraduate degree, she would like to attend graduate school and earn a master's degree in public health data science.
Senior Adam Haertter has been selected by the Math Department as the Hempfield Woman's Club May Student of the Month. Adam is the son of Craig and Sheryl Haertter.
While in high school, Adam has been involved in student tutoring, Renaissance Club, and Spanish Club. Adam plans to attend Shippensburg University to study computer science.
