World War II Encampment Weekend Set

Aug 24, 2019 -

The Ma and Pa Railroad Heritage Village at Muddy Creek Forks, 1258 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Airville, invites the public to its World War II encampment weekend on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The village will offer a 1940s atmosphere with World War II posters and swing music. More than two dozen WWII re-enactors in authentic uniforms representing both the Allies and Axis countries are expected to be present to interact with visitors. This includes a German unit, a large Russian contingent with machine guns and ordinance displays, and the Big Red One Living History Organization - representing the U.S. 1st Infantry Division. The museum grounds will be filled with period tents, equipment, supplies, armaments, Jeeps, and possibly an M20 armored personnel carrier. New this year, a few WWII veterans will share their experiences.

Visitors will also see how the railroad supported the war effort and was affected by it. Due to gasoline rationing during the war, the Ma and Pa saw passenger traffic more than quadruple from 1940 to 1943.

Also, 45-minute motorcar train rides and tours of the village will be offered during the encampment.
