The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) will host a public StarWatch at its observatory at John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York, on Saturday, July 11. The event will run from 8 to 10 p.m.
Due to the pandemic, social distancing rules will be enforced. Masks are required for everyone at the event. The observatory is closed to the public. Telescopes will be brought out to the grass field. Video camera eyepieces may be used to show the view in the telescope.
The event will begin with a screened astronomical presentation on the current events and the July night sky. Guests will then be guided on a tour of the sky while looking through one of the club's telescopes. Attendees will be shown a host of celestial objects, including the Ring Nebula and star clusters.
The event is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. Hot beverages and light refreshments will be available. More information can be found at http://www.facebook.com/astroyork.
When arriving at the John C. Rudy County Park, attendees should use the main park entrance, not the Administrative Office entrance. Signs and lights will direct drivers to the event.
