YCAS To Offer Presentation

Apr 06, 2019 - 5:30 pm

The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) will offer a presentation on the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), NASA's newest space-based telescope designed to discover new extrasolar planets, on Saturday, April 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the York Learning Center Planetarium, 301 E. Sixth Ave., York.

Following in the footsteps of the Kepler mission, TESS is discovering exoplanets orbiting the closest stars to the solar system. TESS launched in April of 2018 and is currently about halfway through its two-year prime mission. In this presentation, Dr. Scott Fleming from the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore will share the latest news from the spacecraft, including a description of how the telescope operates and some of the latest scientific discoveries to come from the mission.

The event is free and open to the public. Limited seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. While there is no cost to attend, donations will be accepted. For more information, readers may visit http://www.facebook.com/astroyork.
