York Catholic High School (YCHS) students are following a new script when it comes to spring musical season. With the challenges the coronavirus has presented, the students are forgoing the traditional musical based in theatrical Broadway stage production and instead are preparing a recorded drama introducing students to the behind-the-scenes activities of television and film production.
"Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play" brings spies, murder, love, and other trademarks of Alfred Hitchcock to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast of the master of suspense's earlier films, "The Lodger," "Sabotage," and "The 39 Steps."
The students have constructed the sets and props and have memorized their lines. The York Catholic musical pit orchestra students wrote and composed all the accompanying music and were challenged to turn everyday objects into sound effects to duplicate the Foley effects of vintage radio broadcasts. An additional crew of camera operators and film editors learned how to record and edit the scenes into a cohesive presentation.
Virtual shows will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 18. Tickets can be purchased by visiting http://www.yorkcatholic.org.
