York County Literacy Council (YCLC) will offer an evening English as a Second Language (ESL) class to its slate of free classes, tutoring, and trainings. The new evening ESL class is the Pre-Literacy/Beginning level. YCLC currently provides daytime and evening classes for ESL levels Pre-Literacy/Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced classes.
Additional classes and trainings at YCLC include classes to prepare for the High School Equivalency test (GED or HiSET), a remedial Adult Learners Class, and a preparatory class for a Nurse Aide Certification Course. YCLC also offers citizenship instruction and naturalization services and volunteer tutor trainings. YCLC provides these free literacy and educational opportunities for adults, those age 18 or older, of York County in an effort to help them achieve educational goals, obtain or improve employment opportunities, prepare for postsecondary education, and improve the quality of life for themselves and their families.
A preparatory class for a Nurse Aide Certification Course will be held on Monday, March 9, through Thursday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration is due by Wednesday, Feb. 26. An orientation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 4. Classes will include presentations by representatives of health care facilities and a mini job fair.
The next 15-hour Volunteer Tutor Training will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, March 14 and 21. Participants must attend all of the training sessions.
