YCLC offers literacy services necessary for the estimated 40,000 functionally illiterate York County adult residents to become active and empowered community members. Services provided within YCLC's Adult Reading and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs include one-to-one tutoring and classes for people of all skill levels, from pre-literacy to advanced. A basic phonics class and GED classes are offered, as are ESL classes for York City School District parents. Daytime and evening sessions are available.
The Next Step, YCLC's newest program, focuses on job readiness, continuing education and life enrichment. Students receive assistance with job searches, resume building, soft skills and interviewing.
YCLC also offers a Literacy in the Workplace program. A tailor-made curriculum is created to meet the specific business's needs, including safety and industry vocabulary necessary for workers to be successful on the job.
