YCSWA Resumes Tours, Programs

The York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) has resumed facility tours and environmental education programs. These activities are currently being provided with added COVID-19 safety measures to protect visitors. Those who are interested in scheduling a tour or program may visit http://www.ycswa.com or call the management office at 717-845-1066.

Tour opportunities include the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC) and the Hopewell Area Recreation Complex (HARC). Environmental education program activities include composting with worms, known as vermicomposting, and "The Magic of Waste-to-Energy."

Tours of the YCRRC and the HARC are offered to individuals and groups. Participants of YCRRC tours learn how York County trash is converted to electricity while being reduced in volume by 90% to a much smaller amount of ash. HARC facility tours highlight how the YCSWA turned a now-closed landfill into 200 acres of space which hosts a wildlife habitat and recreation complex.
