YEFCU Awards Scholarships

This year marks the seventh year York Educational Federal Credit Union (YEFCU) has awarded two $500 Dave Baker York Educational Federal Credit Union Scholarships. The 2019 recipients are Jonathan Gutekunst and Ellen Korver.

Established by the board of directors in 2012 to recognize retired YEFCU president/CEO Dave Baker, the scholarship has the following requirements: the applicant must be a member of YEFCU, be graduating from a local high school, and be attending an institution of higher education in the fall. Applicants are judged by YEFCU's Scholarship Committee based on their academic achievements, their school and community activities, letters of recommendation, and an essay about a credit union-related topic of 400 words or more.

Jonathan, a graduate of Dallastown Area High School, received his $500 scholarship check at YEFCU's board meeting on May 13. He will attend Temple University to pursue a major in television production and television sports broadcasting.

Ellen, a graduate of York Suburban Senior High School, was also presented her $500 scholarship check at YEFCU's board meeting. She will attend York College of Pennsylvania to pursue a fine arts and graphic design major with a goal of working with an organization that engages in the community. She enjoys participating in theater, band, orchestra, and musicals throughout the community.
