YMCA Plans Turkey Trot 5K

The YMCA of York and York County is set to host the 23rd annual Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at 9 a.m. in downtown York.

Led by the biking turkey, this race is a family-friendly activity that many have made a Thanksgiving Day tradition. The flat, fast-paced 5K course is on city streets.

The race will begin at the intersection of Market and Newberry streets and end on King Street adjacent to the Logos Academy, 255 W. King St. Parking is available at the YMCA lot, on the street, and at the Comcast Building parking lot and garage located on Philadelphia Street.

Awards will be presented to the overall male and female participants. Additionally, age group prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in various age groups. Awards will be located inside the YMCA building at the conclusion of the race. There will be no awards ceremony.

Pre-race entry packet pickup will be available at the Graham Aquatic Center, 543 N. Newberry St., York, on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is available off Parkway Boulevard, adjacent to Grace Brethren Church. Those picking up packets should walk across the foot bridge and continue to the front entrance.

Race-day registration will be available from 7 to 8:30 a.m. only.

The YMCA and the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry will again conduct a food drive at the race. Food pantry volunteers will be on-site to accept donations of nonperishable food items at race packet pickup and on the morning of the race.
