York Teacher Honored For Learning Projects

SONIC Drive-In recently concluded its annual Limeades for Learning Fall Voting campaign in support of public school teachers, and one local teacher received funding to support his innovative and creative learning projects. In partnership with nonprofit DonorsChoose.org and with the help of SONIC fans, Brian Heisey, a teacher at Central York Middle School, received a combined $1,767 for necessary supplies to inspire learning in the classroom.

Between Sept. 30 and Oct. 27, SONIC fans voted for projects they found the most inspiring at http://www.LimeadesforLearning.com. Heisey was among the public school teachers whose projects earned funding for teaching resources as part of the annual fall voting campaign. Heisey was honored for three projects - "Personalization in the Classroom," "STEM, Demos and Materials ... Oh My!" and "Virtual Reality STEM Activities."

Since 2009, SONIC has donated more than $14 million, supported more than 17,570 classrooms and provided necessary learning materials and teaching resources requested by teachers to impact more than 3.7 million students in partnership with DonorsChoose.org.

Teachers across America use the DonorsChoose.org site to create projects requesting resources their students need, and donors give to the projects that inspire them. Since its founding by a Bronx teacher in 2000, 4 million people and partners have given $875 million to projects reaching 36 million students.

The DonorsChoose.org team vets each project request and ships resources directly to the school, ensuring full transparency. Every donor receives photos of their project in action, thank-you messages from the classroom and a cost report showing how every dollar was spent. DonorsChoose.org was the first charity to make the top 10 on Fast Company's list of the Most Innovative Companies in the World. Readers may visit the website to learn more.
