Connor Sheehan, Manheim Central's golf coach, doesn't rate his team's success by wins or loses, but by growth. How much better are his golfers swinging the clubs, how much lower are their scores.
Sept. 17 at Foxchase the Barons came in last, but the team showed growth, and improved on the little things like decision making, pre shot routines, and always short game.
Ryan Snavely, a junior, is showing a willingness to work through some swing changes. He shot a 90, which is the low on the team this year.
Top scorers for Manheim - Snavely, Zach Benner, Jon Breinich and Cayden Schwebel - are all underclassmen. The future looks bright for these young Barons.
"We struggled a little bit at Foxchase, but for the team to struggle and still not shoot our highest scores says a lot," Sheehan said. "They know they are capable of playing better. They just need some more experience in matches."
He said he anticipated the Barons last Section Two match at Tanglewood would be a good day and he was correct. No, they didn't win the match, but the scores continue to drop. Manheim shot a 393 overall, with Snavely posting a 94, Benner 95, Schwebel 100 and Breinich 104.
TENNIS
Lampeter-Strasburg got off to a fast start and rolled to a 5-2 victory over the Barons on Sept. 15.

Two days later, the Barons bounced back with a 4-1 win against Penn Manor. Williams and Miller won singles matches, while Brie Mylin and Lauren Huber and Sydney Peters and Kami Groff gained wins at doubles. The girls have an 8-3 record.
VOLLEYBALL
Manheim beat Lampeter-Strasburg 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 on Sept. 16.
"We were able to step up our serve-receive and that allowed us to utilize our offensive options more often," Barons' coach Jason Moyer said. "Tough serving kept them out of system which also translated into more free balls."
Madison Knier had seven kills, Grace Stoltzfus 21assists and five aces. Natalie Siegrist added three blocks and Emma Damon eight digs.
Manheim beat Lebanon last Tuesday 25-14, 25-16 and 25-20.

FIELD HOCKEY
Donegal held on for a 3-2 victory against Manheim on Sept. 15. The Indians led 2-0 at halftime. The Barons' Maddie Hartzler and Kylie Kroesen made it close in the second half. The game was called with about five minutes remaining because of severe weather.
"We struggled to connect against Donegal and did not start on our toes," Barons' coach Morgan Briggs said. "We were complacent to start and didn't come alive until the second half."
Manheim lost to Elizabethtown, 2-1 in OT Sept. 17 at home. Mikayla Appel scored at 7:36 into the third period. Kroesen earned the assist. The Barons lost to Manheim Township on Saturday, 6-2. Kroesen and Ella Brubaker notched goals.
FOOTBALL
Manheim improved its record to 4-0 after a thrilling 43-40 game on Sept. 17 against Perkiomen Valley. The Barons offense took center stage.
Quarterback Judd Novak threw to six different receivers, passing 210 yards, completing 16-of-25 passes. Jaden Weit added 75 yards and scored two TD's late in the game.
Defensively, the Barons were led by Rocco Daugherty (six tackles), Logan Saunders (seven tackles), Kahlen Watt (nine tackles), and Nick Haas, Tyler Fahnestock and Mason Weaver with five tackles each.
They are undefeated and playing as a team, and that pleases Barons' coach Dave Hahn. He said everybody, top to bottom, is communicating. They're working with one another, helping each other.
"I'm pleased with how we've come together as a team since Week One," he said. "We're playing for one another, we're not playing as a bunch of individuals, but as a team, for each other. And I think that's been pretty noticeable by myself, by the coaching staff, and I think that's what's kind of helped lead to some of our success."

Ephrata scored the winning goal on a corner kick with 5:25 left in the second overtime, 95 minutes into the game.
Barons' coach Andrew Stoltzfus was pleased with the effort, and was proud of his team's defense, noting that across the back they really denied the through the ball and limited Ephrata's opportunities.
"It was a classic Ephrata-Manheim Central game," Stoltzfus said. "Each team had their changes. Their keeper made an amazing save in the second half. They are really good on corners. They put that ball right where it needs to be, and in the end, it just squeaked under the crossbar."
