Yovanovich To Present Music Program

Local mezzo-soprano Amy Yovanovich will present a program of classical sacred music, spirituals, and show tunes at St. Edward's Episcopal Church, 2453 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. The event is free, but an offering will be received.

Acclaimed for her tone quality, power, and range, Yovanovich studied under John Darrenkamp, a well-known veteran of the Metropolitan Opera Company. She has performed with the Pennsylvania Academy of Music Opera Theatre Workshop and the Lancaster and Harrisburg opera companies and has studied in Germany. She is known for her solo and oratorio work as well. Yovanovich is currently executive director and vocal instructor for the State Street Academy of Music, director of music for Westgate Baptist Church in Lancaster, and vocal instructor for the Lancaster Conservatory of Music.

Accompanying Yovanovich on piano will be Donna Burkholder. Burkholder earned her Bachelor of Science in music education with a performance major in organ at Susquehanna University. She has held teaching positions in the Lower Dauphin, Ephrata, and Conestoga Valley school systems. She was placed in three Lutheran congregations over 48 years - St. Paul's in Lititz, Bergstrasse in Ephrata, and St. Peter's in Neffsville/Lancaster. Since retiring from teaching in 2009 and from her final director of music position in 2015, Burkholder has substituted in area churches.

The November program is the third concert in the Rev. Canon Stephen C. Casey Cultural Event Series at St. Edward's for 2019, showcasing the church's fellowship outreach. On Sunday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m., the church will present a service of choral evensong with the Rev. David Bateman serving as cantor and officiant and featuring the Lancaster Chamber Singers. The church will offer its 15th annual cookie sale on Saturday, Dec. 7, with the addition of Christmas crafts.
