Celtic duo The Launies, consisting of Jamie O'Brien and Henry Koretzky, will perform at Emmaus Road Cafe, 1886 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, on Saturday, March 16. The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the music will start at 7:30 p.m.
London-Irishman O'Brien lived in Pennsylvania for almost 20 years before moving to Arizona in 2006. He currently performs regularly throughout the Mid-Atlantic states, the Southwest and Hawaii, and he also tours frequently in Canada and Europe. His repertoire includes songs he learned at hooleys (family gatherings) from parents, grandparents and other relatives, along with other tunes he picked up from fellow Irish musicians on his journey through Europe and across the Atlantic to the U.S. He also plays island music he learned while collaborating with musicians in Hawaii.
Koretzky, from Harrisburg, performs an eclectic mix, including bluegrass, swing, and country. He sings and plays the mandolin, mandocello and guitar as a solo performer, accompanist and band member. In addition to The Launies, he performs with Sink or Swing, the Harrisburg Mandolin Orchestra and others.
In The Launies, O'Brien sings and plays the guitar and ukulele, and Koretzky contributes vocals, mandolin and mandocello. Together, the musicians present a wide-ranging selection of music from styles found on both sides of the Atlantic, accompanied by descriptions of the material.
Admission to the concert is free. The cafe offers coffee beverages, Italian sodas, and baked goods for sale. For more information, readers may call 717-478-3672 or email emmausroadcafe@gmail.com.
