Creative Works of Lancaster has announced two writing opportunities for upcoming projects in 2020.
Readers are invited to share their weird, bad, awkward, or outrageous date stories. Creative Works will work with local writers to turn their stories into a series of short performances at Modern Art, 529 W. Chestnut St., Lancaster, on Valentine's Day weekend. To tell stories from a variety of perspectives, any story is welcome, as long as it is true.
Those who have their story adapted for the show will be entered into a drawing to win one of five gift certificates to a local candy company. The deadline for story submissions is Sunday, Dec. 1. Readers may visit http://www.creativelancaster.org to submit a story or contact joanna@creativelancaster.org with any questions.
Creative Works also seeks writers for its eighth annual Play Grounds: Theater on Site, which will be featured as part of Lancaster ArtWalk in May 2020. On Saturday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m., Creative Works will host a walking tour of potential locations to inspire plays for the 2020 edition of its annual site-specific performance series, which will include three original plays by local playwrights that will be written specifically for the locations in which they will be performed. Past venues have included Tellus360, St. James Cemetery, DogStar Books, Wolf Museum of Music and Art's garden, McDonald's, Rhyme and Reason, Zoetropolis, and various street corners and public lots.
Following the Dec. 7 walking tour, writers will be invited to submit plays written for the locations on the tour, and three will be selected for production in the May event. Writers of the selected works will be involved in the rehearsal process with directors and actors, and the plays will be performed as part of ArtWalk, a self-guided tour of downtown Lancaster city, presented by Lancaster City Art Galleries, in early May 2020. Audiences will be guided to each Play Grounds site by a traveling musician. The event will be open to the public with admission by donation.
The Dec. 7 walking tour is free and open to interested writers. It will begin at 1 p.m. at Two Dudes Painting Company, 750 Poplar St., Lancaster. For more information, readers may contact Steve Carlson at steve@creativelancaster.org.
